Quick Answer
For Licensed Providers: No, your listing cannot be removed while you maintain an active California child care license.
For License-Exempt Programs: Yes, you can request removal by contacting your local R&R agency.
Why Licensed Programs Must Remain Listed
My Child Care Plan automatically displays all licensed child care programs in California to ensure families can find all licensed child care options in their area. Your listing comes from data maintained by your local Resource & Referral (R&R) agency and state licensing records.
As long as you hold an active child care license through the Department of Social Services, your program will appear on the website.
What You Can Control
Even though licensed providers cannot remove their listings, you have control over important aspects of how you appear to families:
Manage Your Referral Status
You can update whether you're accepting referrals through your local R&R agency:
Accepting Referrals: Indicates you're open to connections through your R&R agency. Families can contact you directly.
Not Accepting Referrals: Indicates you're not currently accepting R&R referrals. Families can still find and contact you directly through the website.
Important: Changing your referral status does NOT remove you from the website. It only indicates to families whether you're accepting referrals through your R&R agency.
How to Update Your Referral Status
Option 1: Update Through Your Provider Profile
If you've already claimed your profile:
Log in to your account

Common Questions
What if I'm closing my program?
If you're permanently closing, your license will be deactivated and your listing will be automatically removed once that information is updated in the system.
What if I'm temporarily closed?
Update your referral status to "Not Accepting Referrals" and update your vacancy information to reflect you have no openings. You can also update your profile description to note your temporary closure.
Can families still contact me if I'm "Not Accepting Referrals"?
Yes. Families can still find your listing and contact you directly. The referral status only indicates whether you're accepting connections through your local R&R agency.
My profile still appears after changing my referral status
This is expected. Changing your referral status does not remove your listing - it only changes how you appear in referral filters. All licensed providers remain visible on the website.
