Why Can't I Access My Provider Dashboard?

Having trouble accessing your provider dashboard? Learn how to identify and fix common account setup issues, including error messages, wrong account types, and incomplete verification.

Updated today

If you're trying to access your provider dashboard and something doesn't look right, this article will help you identify the issue and fix it.

Three common reasons providers can't access their dashboard:

  • You see an error message after logging in

  • You see a parent dashboard instead of the provider portal

  • You haven't completed the profile claiming/verification process

Find your situation below, then follow the steps to resolve it.

Scenario 1: You See an Error Message

How to identify this: After logging in, you see:

"An error has occurred. Please refresh your browser. If you still see this page, please contact [email protected]"

Why this happens: This error typically appears when there's an issue with how your account was set up. This can happen if:

  • You registered on the wrong sign-up page (for example, you signed up as a prospective provider when you're actually a licensed/established provider.)

  • You haven't completed all the required verification steps for your provider account

How to fix it: This requires completing the profile claiming process to connect your account to your existing provider listing.

  1. Visit MyChildCarePlan.org

  2. Search for your program using your business name or license number

  3. Look for the "Unclaimed" label above your program name

  4. Click to start the claiming process

  5. Log in with the same account you created

  6. Follow the verification steps (phone or email code)

  7. You should then see your provider dashboard

If you can't find your program when searching: Try your exact license number. If your program still doesn't appear, contact your local Resource & Referral (R&R) agency.

Scenario 2: You See a Parent Dashboard Instead of the Provider Portal

How to identify this: After logging in, you see a dashboard with tabs like "Child Care Plan," "Resources," "Announcements," and "Profile" — and a message like "Find child care that you can love, trust and feel good about." This is the parent account view, not the provider portal.

Why this happens: You created a parent account instead of a provider account. This can happen if you used the general sign-up page rather than the designated provider claiming page.

How to fix it: You can switch your account type yourself — no need to contact support.

  1. Visit MyChildCarePlan.org and log in to your existing account

  2. Search for your program using your business name or license number

  3. Click to claim your profile

  4. You'll see a prompt: "Switching to child care provider account type – proceed?"

  5. Click Yes to convert your account from a parent account to a provider account

  6. Complete the verification steps (phone or email code)

  7. You should then see your provider dashboard

Important: You do not need to create a new account. The system will convert your existing parent account to a provider account automatically.

Scenario 3: You Haven't Completed Verification

How to identify this: You've started the claiming process, but the system did not, or you're still seeing the error message from Scenario 1. You may have exited the process before finishing the verification step.

Why this happens: The profile claiming process requires verification by phone or email. If you didn't complete this step, your account remains unverified and the provider dashboard won't load properly.

How to fix it: Complete the claiming process from where you left off.

  1. Visit your program's public profile page on MyChildCarePlan.org

  2. Search for your program using your business name or license number

  3. Click to claim your profile — the system will pick up where you left off

  4. Complete the verification steps (phone or email code)

  5. You should then see your provider dashboard
